Korea began national safeguarding of intangible heritage in the 1960s, establishing:

the Intangible Cultural Property system,

the Master Artisan system (Living Human Treasures),

and specialist training centers for arts, crafts, and rituals.

Regional heritage (Gangneung Danoje, Andong Mask Dance, Jeju Haenyeo) → sustainable tourism and regional revitalization.

Traditional games (yutnori, ssireum) → e-learning, creative coding, e-sports formats.

Folk paintings and shamanic symbols → K-animation, character design, visual branding.

This transformation marks a decisive shift:

Heritage is not something Korea protects.
It is something Korea uses—ethically, creatively, sustainably.

Global brands increasingly adopt Korean herbal formulations rooted in thousands of years of knowledge.

5) Tourism & Local Development

Experiences such as:

anchor sustainable regional economies while strengthening cultural identity.

6) Education & Culture Technology

Korea leads globally in heritage-tech integration:

This model is now studied by UNESCO and cultural institutes worldwide.

4. The Cultural Philosophy of Continuity

1960년대 무형문화재 제도와 인간문화재 지정은
