The Nomads World Culture Festival took place from 17 to 21 August 2023 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Around 1,500 intangible cultural heritage bearers participated. Representatives from Mongolia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Türkiye, and South Korea also took part in the festival.
As a subsidiary event, there were a consultative meeting on 19 and 20 August about the twentieth anniversary of the 2003 Convention.
In this meeting, the organizer invited the representatives from four UNESCO Category 2 Centers, UNESCO Beijing Office, IICAS, various heritage institutes of Mongolia, and Culture Masters. The meeting concluded with the adoption of the Nomad Living Heritage Declaration to promote and safeguard nomadic living heritage by prioritizing sustainable development and fostering cooperation among stakeholders.
The declaration will establish a foundation for a comprehensive and inclusive approach to safeguarding nomads living heritage for the next twenty years.
Dr. Seong-Yong Park, CEO, Culture Masters, presented information about its activities and promoted WEPAF 2023 with presenting a detailed explanation along with its promotional video.
Dr. Park made Several other consultations with experts from IRCI, the UNESCO Beijing Office, and ICH committees of Kazakhstan. Culture Masters also held collaborative talks with IICAS and the Culture Ministry of Mongolia in order to develop the collaborative work to raise the capacity of cultural festival and cultural content development.
