Recognizing the profound importance of preserving these age-old practices, Cha-Jun underscores the crucial role of traditional agricultural and fisheries methods in fostering sustainable development for humanity.
Situated in the southwestern reaches of South Korea, Mu'an County boasts a rich legacy in agriculture and fisheries industries. Within this vibrant locale, Kim Cha-Jun operates as a custodian of traditional wisdom, having imbibed and applied ancestral agricultural insights in Mu'an. His endeavors span both the terrestrial and marine domains, where he not only manages mixed farms cultivating sesame and peppers but also oversees fishing operations in the bountiful waters of the Mu'an sea.

In a recent interview conducted by Dr. Park Seong-Yong in early May 2024, Kim Cha-Jun expressed profound satisfaction in his responsibility to pass down the cherished customs of agriculture and fisheries to forthcoming generations in Mu'an. This sense of duty is heightened by the region's unique blessing of a harmonious coexistence between its terrestrial and aquatic realms.
The UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, adopted in 2003, defines a framework aimed at preserving traditional cultures and techniques. This global initiative resonates deeply with the endeavors of individuals like Kim Cha-Jun, who tirelessly strive to uphold and transmit traditional agricultural and fisheries techniques.

Traditional agricultural practices encompass a myriad of activities, from farming methods to crop cultivation and soil management. In Mu'an, these practices serve not only as pragmatic solutions but also as repositories of cultural heritage, reflecting the intrinsic values of the local populace. Kim Cha-Jun's pivotal role and contributions in transmitting ICH within the Mu'an community are paramount. 김차준 선생, 대한민국 무안군 농.어업 전통기술·지식의 달인
유네스코를 포함한 국제사회에서는 각 사회의 전통적인 농업과 어업 지식과 기술이 인류의 지속 가능한 발전을 위한 중요한 무형문화유산으로 인식되고 있다. 대한민국의 서남부에 위치한 전라남도 무안군은 주로 농업과 어업이 발달한 지역으로 알려져 있다. 특히 무안은 유명한 갯벌이 있어 해산물이 풍부하고, 농업도 잘 발달한 곳으로 알려져 있다. 무안 지역에서는 예술 분야를 포함하여 다양한 활동이 활발하게 이루어지고 있다.
김차준 선생
무안의 육지와 바다에서 농업과 어업에 종사하는 김차준 선생은 무안 농어업 전통기술과 지식을 습득하여 활용하고 미래세대에게 전달하는 전통지식의 전승자이다. 과거에 불교 수도승으로도 활동한 바 있는 그는 무안 지역에서 농사일에 종사하면서 참깨와 고추 등 복합농장을 운영하면서 지역 농업발전에 기여해 왔다. 아울러, 무안 바다에서 어선을 관리하면서 지역의 수산업 관련 지식에 정통한 지역 사회의 일원이기도 하다.

2024년 5월 2일, 발행인 박성용 박사가 진행한 인터뷰에서 김차준 선생은 "무안지역이 천혜의 자연환경으로 농토와 바다가 공존하는 곳이어서 농업과 어업의 전통기술과 지식을 일상에서 적극 활용하고, 다음세대에 전수하는 역할을 담당하게 되어 기쁘다"고 밝혔다.
2003년에 채택된 유네스코 무형문화유산 협약에서는 인류의 전통적인 기술과 지식이 무형문화유산의 범주에 포함된다고 정의하고 있으며, 각 사회의 농업과 어업 분야의 전통 기술은 무형문화유산으로서 국제적으로 보호해야 한다고 강조하고 있다. 전통적인 농업 기술은 농사 경작, 작물 재배, 토양 관리 등을 포함하며, 이러한 기술은 지역 사회의 문화적인 측면을 반영하고 있다. 또한 농업과 어업 분야의 전통 기술은 자연 환경과의 조화, 지역사회와의 협업, 그리고 세대 간 전승 등의 가치를 내포하고 있어 무형문화유산으로서 보호되어야 한다.

무안 지역 공동체 속에서 우리의 살아있는유산을 미래 세대에 전승하기 위해 애쓰고 있는 김 차준 선생의 역할과 활동은 지역 사회의 자연환경에 기반한 정체성을 유지하고, 전통 기술과 지식을 전승하는 데 기여한다는 점에서 우리 사회는 물론 국제사회의 지속가능 발전을 위해서 주목할 만한 사례인 것이다.
