Culture Masters is pleased to announce the official opening of applications for the Arirang Masters Designation Program, a prestigious international initiative recognizing outstanding masters in the field of intangible cultural heritage (ICH). The deadline for submissions is May 31, 2025.
Launched in April 2023 under the guidance of the International Advisory Board (IAB) of Culture Masters, the program aims to elevate cultural bearers whose life’s work embodies excellence, tradition, and creativity. The designation process follows the principles outlined in the 1980 UNESCO Recommendation and the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, reinforcing global efforts to preserve living traditions.

Who Is Eligible?
The program is open to individuals demonstrating:
Exceptional mastery in any ICH domain, such as oral traditions, performing arts, rituals, traditional knowledge, or craftsmanship
A proven commitment to both innovation and preservation
A strong record of transmitting knowledge through teaching or community leadership

The application process involves three key steps:
Consultation – Initiate the process by consulting a Cultural Heritage Organization in your country.
Submission – Prepare a nomination file including a biography, statement of intent, and supporting documentation.
Review & Designation – Final review and formal designation by the IAB in accordance with the official Program Guide.
