Culture Masters' Urgent Call: Safeguarding Heritage for Peace.
With the endorsement and strong support of the sixteen members of its International Advisory Board—cultural experts from all regions of the world—Culture Masters recognizes the urgent need to address the challenges posed by armed conflicts and wars, which threaten the very survival of humanity. Across the globe, millions suffer from the devastating consequences of violence, displacement, and loss caused by these conflicts. From the ravaged cities of Syria and the war-torn regions of Yemen and Afghanistan to the ongoing conflicts between Russia and Ukraine and the enduring strife between Israel and Palestine, the world witnesses the harrowing toll of warfare on innocent lives and cultural heritage alike. In conflict-ridden areas, the preservation of intangible cultural heritage faces immense challenges as communities struggle to maintain their traditions amidst the chaos of war.
The preamble of the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage explicitly states that the protection of and activities related to intangible cultural heritage contribute to the promotion of a culture of peace. Building upon this understanding, it is recognized that safeguarding and promoting intangible cultural heritage not only preserves the diversity and creativity of human civilization but also fosters the spread of a culture of peace while promoting sustainable development.
Culture Masters' Peace-Building Initiatives: Engaging Conflicted Countries and Artists.
With this in mind, Culture Masters aims to take an active and leading role in the construction of a culture of peace. Firstly, to encourage the participation of countries in conflict, a joint invitation program will be organized. This program will include initiatives such as the Arirang Master Designation, cultural content co-development, and joint performances targeting countries in conflict zones.
Culture Masters is also preparing to launch a sponsorship campaign to facilitate the smooth execution of its initiatives. Culture Masters plans to implement a system for the joint inclusion of artists from conflicted countries in the Arirang Master designation program for intangible cultural heritage artists worldwide. By removing numerical restrictions and deadlines and encouraging collaboration among conflicting parties, this initiative aims to provide opportunities for artists from relevant countries to plan and implement joint projects.
Culture Masters: Fostering Peace Through Cultural Reconciliation and Global Impact.
Through these efforts, Culture Masters seeks to assist countries and regions in conflict in reconciling through their unique and traditional cultures. The support and cooperation of UNESCO and other relevant international organizations, governments, cultural institutes, businesses, artists, and members of cultural communities are crucial for the success of these peace-building endeavors.
Additionally, Culture Masters hopes that its efforts to promote a culture of peace will have a positive impact not only in the cultural sphere but also across various sectors globally. We aspire to mutual growth and development toward our shared goals.

컬처 마스터즈의 긴박한 호소: 평화를 위한 문화 유산 보호.
컬처 마스터즈는 세계 각 지역의 권위 있는 문화 전문가들로 이루어진 산하 국제 자문위원회의 강력한 지지를 받아, 인류의 존속에 심각한 위협을 가하는 무장 충돌과 전쟁의 도전에 대처해야 할 절박한 필요성을 인식하고자 한다. 전 세계적으로 수백만 명이 이러한 충돌로 인한 폭력, 이동 및 상실의 파국에 직면하고 있다. 시리아의 황폐한 도시, 예멘 및 아프가니스탄의 전쟁 피해 지역부터 수년간 교전 중인 러시아와 우크라이나 간의 분쟁, 이스라엘과 팔레스타인 간의 지속적인 갈등을 포함하여, 세계 도처에서 무고한 인명과 문화 유산에 대한 전쟁의 참혹한 대가를 목격하고 있다. 분쟁이 잦은 지역에서는 전통을 유지하는 것이 매우 어려운 상황이며, 공동체가 전쟁의 혼란 속에서 전통을 유지하기 위해 많은 희생을 감내하고 있는 실정이다.
2003년에 채택된 유네스코 무형문화유산보호협약의 서문에는 무형문화유산의 보호와 관련된 활동이 평화 문화 조성에 기여한다는 내용이 명시되어 있음을 상기하고자 한다. 이러한 이해를 바탕으로 무형문화유산의 보호와 증진이 인류 문명의 다양성과 창의성을 보존할 뿐만 아니라 지속 가능한 발전을 촉진하는 동시에 평화 문화의 확산을 촉진할 수 있다는 점을 갈조하고자 한다.

상기의 인식에 기반하여, 컬처 마스터즈는 평화 문화 구축에서 적극적이고 실제적인 역할을 담당하고자 한다. 먼저, 분쟁 중인 국가들의 참여를 촉진하기 위해 공동 초청 프로그램을 조직할 예정이며, 이 프로그램에는 분쟁 지역을 대상으로 한 아리랑 마스터 임명 프로그램, 문화 콘텐츠 공동 개발 및 합동 공연과 같은 다양한 프로젝트가 포함될 것이다.
특히, 컬처 마스터즈는 세계적인 무형문화유산 예술가 대상 아리랑 마스터 임명 프로그램을 통해 분쟁 국가의 예술가들을 공동으로 포함시키기 위한 시스템을 구축할 계획이다. 이 프로젝트에서는 분쟁지역 국가에 한해서는 아리랑 마스터 임명 시 숫자 제한이나 신청 기일 등의 절차와 형식에 얽매이지 않고 갈등 당사자 간의 협력을 우선적으로 장려하여 관련 국가의 예술가들이 공동 프로젝트를 기획하고 실행할 수 있는 기회를 제공하는 것을 목표로 한다. 아울러, 컬처 마스터즈는 원활한 사업 추진을 위해 국제사업 후원캠페인을 추진할 예정이다.
